2010 Spring League Information

Just the Facts

  • Dates: Sundays, March 21 – May 16 (9 weeks)
  • Tournament: Sunday, May 23
  • Times: A-league 10AM to 1PM and B-league 1PM to 4PM*
  • Location: Broomfield County Commons, Red Pod (see map below)
  • Cost: $60

Registration
To register go to https://registration.gru.org.

Our goal is to provide league play with a 4/3 ratio of men to women. Our approach is to register as many women as possible before opening registration for men. This allows us to know with a higher degree of confidence how many teams we can form and therefore how many men’s slots will be available. Traditionally, the men’s slots for both A and B divisions fill up very quickly (within minutes to hours after opening registration). Based on this experience, the registration schedule has been set as follows:

  • Women Only: February 23 – March 9
  • Men’s Registration: March 8 @ 7PM – March 9

About the Waitlist
On the registration page, you may see a link for Waitlist. Please sign up on the waitlist if you want to play. Until the registration period is complete, the number of spots for men are restricted until sufficient women register to create additional teams. At that point, we will release men from the waitlist.

When you are released, you will receive an email informing you that you will be able complete your registration and payment. The system gives you 2 days to complete your registration. After that two days your release status will expire and prevent you from completing the registration. If this happens to you, just contact us and we’ll make every attempt to re-release you. However, if you delay, you risk losing your spot to other eager players.

About Our League
Grass Roots Ultimate Spring League is for adult mixed teams that are selected by volunteer captains based on a draft system. We provide the means for family members to play together on the same team (via player requests, aka “baggage”).

We offer two division of play: A and B. The B division is appropriate for beginners, mentors, and those casual players who are comfortable supporting beginner level play. The B division tends to also offer opportunities to practice and socialize outside of the scheduled game times. The A division is appropriate for more experienced players. Less experienced, but athletic players may succeed in the A league with the right support. Please contact us if you have questions about which league is right for you. We would like to encourage players with a combined ranking of 14+ to consider trying the A league.

After registration is completed, the captains will meet to draft the teams for the season. After the draft (which is currently scheduled on March 15 for A and March 16 for B), each captain will notify his/her selected players to notify them about the schedule and any other pertinent information. If you have not heard from your captain by the Friday before league begins (March 19), please contact us.

We will also make every attempt to keep the website updated with the rosters and schedules as soon as they are known.

For any other general league questions, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page.

Spring Development League/Clinics
GRU is once again running a Dev league for those who would like to improve their play. Go to spring-development-league for all the info.

Weather Cancellations
While the weather in Colorado is usually sunny, Spring is a time of wild unpredictability, with rain, snow, and wind possible. We will make every attempt to assess the playability of the fields each week. If games must be canceled, we will make an announcement on the website, on our hotline (303-661-0664), to gru-chat, and to the captains. Please forgive us if we decide to cancel games on a day that turns out to be lovely. The decision is often made outside of our control and/or far in advance due to the need to make notifications.

Parents
We are trying to organize parents in our community in the hopes of creating/supporting child care options during games. If you’re interested in this initiative, send an email to parents@gru.org.

Volunteers
This league and our organization is wholly run by volunteers. If you have an interest in helping us help you, please let us know. We can use help with game-day operations as well as other support and outreach activities throughout the year.

Lost and Found
If you either lose or find something at the games, you may contact our Lost and Found Coordinator at lost.found@gru.org.

GRUB 2010 Details

19th Annual Grass Roots Ultimate Benefit Tournament

Dates
July 17-18 2010

We are accepting beneficiary applications during the month of March. All proceeds raised at GRUB will be donated to the chosen beneficiary. This is a great way for ultimate players to bring the spirit of the game off the field and into the community. GRU targets small, local, and often overlooked non-profits. We give preference to charities with an ultimate connection. There will be some leg work required by the charity organization to provide volunteers and gather some provisions.

Download Beneficiary Application

Applications are due by: March 31, 2010. The winning charity will be announced in mid April.

Location
Boulder, Colorado: Pleasant View Soccer Complex

Tournament Director: BakerDave

Format
32 mixed teams, 2 Divisions, 11th Edition.
Format: 4 men / 3 women.
In the past we have not seen enough teams with women on the rosters to allow offense calls 3 men / 4 women ratios. However, in the A-Div captains are encouraged to play some 3/4 points, but no 5/2 points. In the B-div captains may agree to 5/2 offense calls. Captains need to agree to altering ratios before the start of games.

Cost
$40.00/player ($35 student rate) plus a $250 team deposit that is refunded when your team attends. Please consider making an extra donation (see charity info below). No refunds will be given two weeks prior to the event.

Beneficiary Information

Proceeds raised at GRUB 2010 will be donated to: TBA

We raise money from the team entry fees AND pledges from your friends, families and coworkers. As an incentive for you to raise pledges above the entry fee we will be giving prizes to individuals who can raise the largest donations. Thank you for helping.

FIELD USE
Remember as in most urban centers, quality recreational spaces are sparse and competitive adult ultimate does not get highest priority when it comes to obtaining this site. So be mindful of the surrounding neighbors, obey the park regulations, and use your common sense so that you do not jeopardize future ultimate events.

No glass bottles permitted on the fields.

Dogs are not permitted at GRU tournament events. Really no dogs, not in your car, not on a leash, not on the fields, and not in the parking lot.

Please do not practice at the Pleasant View site until the day of the tournament. If your team is coming in from out of town here is a link to a map of various field locations in Boulder: Fields. Please note that certain locations are by reservation only.

Violation of these rules or behavior deemed unacceptable will be grounds for expulsion from the tournament and the facility. The Grass Roots Ultimate Board of Directors (and its designees, including the Tournament Director) and the City of Boulder Recreation Staff reserve the right to enforce this policy.

OUT OF TOWN GUESTS
There is no camping on the fields. Here is a map other amenities
