After fielding a curveball when our fields at Platt became unavailable, the GRU board has made arrangements to hold summer league games at Centennial Middle School and at Violet (formerly known as Foothills Community Park). Please read on below for specifics.

Format
Summer League will have two divisions of play: A and B. The format for A League will depend on the numbers of women that register, with a goal of providing a ratio of 4 men/3 women if possible. The format for B league will be 4 men/3 women.

Registration
Registration will reopen at noon on Tuesday, May 13. To register on or after that date, go to https://registration.gru.org.

Our goal is to provide league play with a 4/3 ratio of men to women. Our approach is to register as many women as possible before opening registration for men. This allows us to know with a higher degree of confidence how many teams we can form and therefore how many men’s slots will be available. Traditionally, the men’s slots for both A and B divisions fill up very quickly (within 1-3 days). Based on this experience the registration schedule has been set as follows:

  • Women Only: Prior to May 7

(suspended temporarily to resolve fields issues)
  • Open Registration: May 13 and after

Advanced Registration for Men
Men can get advanced registration in the following ways:

  • Have a woman register and name you as her player request.
  • Recruit a woman who has never played in our leagues before. She does NOT have to request you to play on the same team with her.
  • Volunteer to captain (subject to availability).

In each of these cases, you must contact the league coordinator (email league@gru.org) so that he can verify your eligibility for advanced registration. If you qualify, he will add you to the “back door” waitlist and then release you.

When you are released, you will receive an email informing you that you will be able complete your registration and payment. The system gives you 2 days to complete your registration. After that two days your release status will expire and prevent you from completing the registration. If this happens to you, just contact us and we’ll re-release you. In order to take advantage of the advanced registration, you must complete your registration before March 5th.

About Our League
Grass Roots Ultimate Summer League is for adult mixed teams that are selected by volunteer captains based on a draft system. We provide the means for family members to play together on the same team (via player requests, aka “baggage”).

We offer two division of play: A and B. The B division is appropriate for beginners, mentors, and those casual players who are comfortable supporting beginner level play. The B division tends to be more social, offering opportunities to practice and socialize outside of the scheduled game times. The A division is appropriate for more experienced players. Less experienced, but highly athletic players may succeed in the A league with the right support. Please contact us if you have questions about which league is right for you.

During the registration process, a captain’s pool is formed from the the players who volunteer for this consideration. After registration is completed, the summer captains will be selected from the captain’s pool to then meet to draft the teams for the season. After the draft (which is on May 20), each captain will notify his/her selected players to notify them about the schedule and any other pertinent information. If you have not heard from your captain by the Friday before league begins (May 30), please contact us.

We will also make every attempt to keep the website updated with
the rosters and schedules as soon as they are known.

Weather Cancellations
While the weather in Colorado is usually pleasant, some variable weather can interrupt or cancel play on any given evening of play. Lightning is of specific concern during summer evenings. We will make every attempt to assess your safety and the playability of the fields each week. If games must be canceled in advance, we will make an announcement on the website, on our hotline (303-661-0664), to gru-chat, and to the captains. Please forgive us if we decide to cancel games on a day that later seems to be playable, we aim to keep the safety of all participants and the maintenance and playability of our fields as priorities in this process. Please also cooperate and clear the fields to a safe location if an interruption or cancellation is called due to lightning.

Lost and Found
If you either lose or find something at the games, you may contact our Lost and Found Coordinator at lost.found@gru.org.

Parents
We are trying to organize parents in our community in the hopes of creating/supporting child care options during games. If you’re interested in this initiative, send an email to parents@gru.org.

Volunteers
This league and our organization is wholly run by volunteers. If you have an interest in helping us help you, please let us know. We can use help with both game-day operations as well as other support and outreach activities.
