Grass Roots Ultimate (GRU) reserves the right to reject applicants and/or remove players from the league for reasons including (but not limited to) abusive, dangerous, or unspirited conduct, on or off the field. No refunds will be given to players removed from the league. All such issues will be decided by GRU’s Conduct Committee, and, if necessary, by the GRU Board of Directors. By registering to play in GRU, you are agreeing to these terms.
League Conduct Policy
It is important that all participants in GRU understand that Ultimate is different from many other team sports. This is not only because it allows players to display great acts of true sportsmanship, but also because the sport allows men and women to play together, without any overseeing officials.
Respect is of the utmost importance in the sport of Ultimate. Playing safely is a cornerstone of respect for other players. A consequence of mixed gender play in a league setting can be a higher risk of injury resulting from contact between players of widely divergent sizes, athleticism, and fitness levels.
In Ultimate, it is the responsibility of all players to avoid contact in every way possible, even at the cost of the game.
While GRU understands that any contact may be accidental, we want to emphasize the importance of playing safely. We ask that players exercise extra caution and vigilance at all league games. Our intention is to keep the game safe, not to make it less competitive.
The conduct policy has been established to address players (or teams) who either pose a danger to others or do not show any respect toward their opponents.
Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Threatening another player
- Verbally abusing another player
- Intentional, aggressive contact
With the consent of the board of directors, the conduct committee has the power to suspend any player or team at any time for flagrant violation or intentional
disregard of league or field rules and policies. Captains can also call a game due to extreme violations of spirit and/or conduct.
Captains or players who want to report any conduct problems that arise during a league game are asked to contact a board member or discuss the incident with a captain. If action is to be taken, all those involved will be included in the open process.
Any dangerous/unspirited player will be dealt with in the following manner:
- After the first complaint against a player, the conduct committee will communicate with captains of both teams involved in that particular game, as well as the captain or player who made the first complaint. The concerned player will be asked to explain his/her actions.
- If a second complaint is filed against the same player, a member of the conduct committee may observe one (or more) of that player’s league games. The observer may intervene in the game, if necessary.
- If a subsequent complaint is received and substantiated, the conduct committee, with the consent of the board of directors, has the right to suspend the player for the duration of the season, including the tournament.
Ultimate is based on respect and fair play. The proper understanding of rules and policies is essential to the integrity of the game. Please take the time to read and understand the rules.
