Current Board Members
Sonya started playing Ultimate in 1998. After moving to Madison, WI from her native Canada she met some ultimate players who needed women for their team and were willing to train a soccer player. The spirit of the game won her over. She moved to Boulder and started playing GRU league in 1999. From 2005 to 2011 she was responsible for ordering GRU league shirts, discs and prizes as well as managing the league feedback surveys. Sonya joined the board in 2009 and took on the role of President in 2010.
Jacob Marienthal, Vice President
Jacob joined the board in 2007 and took on the role of VP in late 2009.
Erin started playing Ultimate in 1996 while attending the University of California, Davis. After moving to Boulder for graduate school Erin began playing in GRU leagues in 2003. Since 2006, he has been captaining B league teams, organizing teams to attend local tournaments, and enjoying the local Ultimate community. Erin joined the board in 2009 and took on the role of Secretary in late 2009. Along with Sonya, Erin has served as Rocky Mountain Sectional Coordinator since 2010 and directed local efforts to host the 2011 USA Ultimate College Championships.
Carley had her first taste of Ultimate as a Media Intern for USA Ultimate in the spring of 2010, but it was not until that fall she touched a disk and was welcomed into the GRU community with open arms. She spends her summer, fall, and spring seasons with the B-leaguers developing skills and reveling in the camaraderie. Carley joined the board in 2012 as Treasurer.
Joe Mulder, Youth Program Coordinator
Joe started playing ultimate in 2005 after moving to Boulder and was drawn into the sport through the positive, spirited community found in league. Joe volunteered as Tournament Director for the Colorado Cup in 2009 and in 2010 while simultaneously starting GRU’s youth program. He continues to play league, tournaments and on club teams. Joe joined the board in 2011 and took on the role of Youth Program Coordinator.
Ray Chen, Minister of Propaganda
Ray started playing ultimate through intramurals at CU in 2004 and joined GRU in 2007. Over the years, he has mastered the 1″ vertical and the art of throwing uncatchable hammers through league play and tournaments. Ray took over GRU purchasing duties from Sonya in late 2011 and soon after joined the board to oversee league branding and merchandise.
